Paint Belize Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

The month of October is observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this year the office of the Special Envoy for Women and Children is embarking on a national awareness campaign called Paint Belize Pink. To bring heightened attention to breast cancer, households and particularly businesses are being asked to put pink light bulbs and/or decorations outside their buildings in a show of solidarity with cancer patients.

This campaign is to send a message to cancer survivors, persons battling with the illness and those who have lost loved ones, that they are not alone in their struggle. All Belizeans are encouraged to light a pink candle in honor of those who have lost their lives; light the outside of homes and businesses with pink bulbs in a show of solidarity with those still battling cancer and to wear a pink ribbon in celebration of those who have survived.

Taking a united stand in solidarity with persons afflicted with or affected by breast cancer puts the illness in the national spotlight; making a more significant impact in efforts to raise awareness. We can make a significant difference and save countless lives by educating ourselves and our peers about screening, self-breast examination and the facts about breast cancer, early detection and treatment options. As part of the campaign, businesses can also purchase 8 foot tall cancer awareness ribbons made from vinyl/plastic with metal backing through the Special Envoy office.

On Friday, September 27, 2013, Kim Simplis Barrow unveiled a pink ribbon at the office of the Special Envoy for Women and Children, officially launching the Paint Belize Pink Campaign. The unveiling took place on the 6th floor of the Withfield Tower on Coney Drive. This October… let’s Paint Belize Pink!
