He has been collecting monetary notes from around the world for over 12 years now and boasts bills from over 93 countries around the globe. You can say that Joel Magaña is the island’s resident money collector; a hobby that has gotten him quite an impressive collection.
Joel dared us to name any country in the world and surely he pulled out money from at least five countries that we named out. There are some from countries that I had not even heard of, far, far away from our little island. He keeps them bound in an album and proudly displays them to anyone interested in learning more about his collection.
And Joel is very knowledgeable about the countries which he has been able to obtain money from; he even knows a little history on the currency of each country. How does he obtain money without being a globe trotter? Well, Joel works in the tourism industry and keeps a very keen eye and ear on tourists who visit Belize and manages to exchange money whenever he can. His collection would have been much bigger today, but a few years back it was stolen from him. Needless to say, he had to start from scratch all over again.
But his passion for collecting money and getting to know about countries that he can only dream about visiting is what keeps Joel going and expanding his collection. It’s a hobby that has gotten him lots of wealth with money, intellect, cultural knowledge and friendship from around the world.
