San Pedro Pays Tribute to Virgin of Guadalupe

The Virgin of Guadalupe must be smiling on her throne as a result of a spectacular tribute rendered by the town of San Pedro on the eve of December 12, 2013. The expectation of the church organizing committee was to provide non-stop presentations that would lead until midnight to sing ‘Las Mañanitas’ to the Virgin of Guadalupe as is done in thousands of churches through Mexico.

A church fair commenced from 5 p.m. with the sale of food and refreshments at Friendship Park.  At 8 p.m. the priest offered a prayer which was then followed by the entertainment and homage to the Virgin Saint. Scores of families presented floral arrangements at the foot of the La Guadalupana’s altar, making their silent petition, and ‘thank you’s’.

Poems presented by Martita Leslie and Angel Nuñez set the trend for reverence and applause.  Beautiful presentations of dances and skits were presented by Little Angels Pre School, Isla Bonita Elementary and San Pedro R.C. School. Children who took loud applause were Noellie Wiltshire, Diego Francois and those of the San Pedro Dance Academy. Delightfully, several teenagers paid homage to the Virgin with songs as were Elina Palma, Solani Graniel, and Neslen Rivero. Natalie Arceo (La Voz Diamante) sang her heart out in solos as well as with her choir of children and youths. The San Pedro Mariachi Mr. Javier Castillo (La Voz Romantica) also delighted the church audience and accompanied several of the vocalists. Renowned vocalists of San Pedro including Wally Nuñez, Oscar Aguilar, David Aguilar, Yoli Aguilar Rivero, gave the crowd goose bumps as they rendered their tribute in song to La Virgen Morena in the same style as is in the cathedrals all over Mexico.

And then it was midnight and the renowned vocalists and guitarists, accompanied by flower girls, all marched into the church singing Las Mañanitas to the Virgin; they were joined by the entire congregation/audience. What a spectacle! Those who missed it truly have reasons to regret. Ironically, people usually all move out after a mass celebration is over.  Not so this time for the Mañanitas, where most of the folks stayed overtime to continue enjoying the singing and the Tribute To La Guadalupana.
