San Pedro Sports Council Hosts Football Clinics

The San Pedro Sports Council has been hosting football clinics on Saturdays for the children of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye at the Plaza De San Pedro (Old Football Field). Football (soccer) is an integral part of local cultures across the world. It is something so positive that it brings smiles to children’s faces, even in the worst of circumstances.

Football is for everyone; it can be played by everyone regardless of age, gender, religion, ethnicity or social background and level of fitness. It can be played everywhere and anywhere. Football is a school of life – Fair play, team spirit and camaraderie are just a few of the many values advocated by football and being taught to the island children at these clinics. Having fun is the most important thing in football and this is exactly what the San Pedro Sports Council and coaches wish to imply to the children of Ambergris Caye.

Children are being given grassroots training every Saturday and marathons are being played on Fridays. There are three groups for training for children ages 4 – 7, 8- 10 and 11 – 15. Girls are welcomed to attend and partake in the football clinics and children can bring their own soccer ball as well. Coaches are wanted and must have a lot of patience to deal with the children.  Anyone interested in coaching can contact Deputy Mayor Gaby Nuñez at 605-0976 or Freddie Gonzalez Jr. at 604-0949.
