The Hon. Louis “Cus” Sylvester Sports Field was the venue for this year’s Mother’s Day celebration in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye Belize. The event was teeming with mothers of all ages, all having a great time with entertainment that the San Pedro Town Council had put together.
The highlight of the evening was the coronation of Mother of the Year 204 Mrs. Idolina Vasquez. Mother of the Year 2013 Mrs. Carolina Kumul was on hand to crown Idolina and present her with a bouquet of flowers.
A very happy and elated Idolina accepted the honor of being Mother of the Year and was all smiles the rest of the evening. Mrs. Idolina Vasquez (75 years old) is married to Santiago Vasquez and is mother of four children: Eloina Bliss, Mina Guerrero, Lorna Vasquez and Santiago Vasquez. She has ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
During the special evening last Saturday, May 10, mothers in attendance were also treated to a gourmet turkey dinner, delicious dessert and complimentary drink. Other highlights of the evening were performances by special comedian guest Ismael Salazar, imitator Danny Novar and singer Julia Manrique, The San Pedro Dance Academy and Mariachi Tierra Maya from Chetumal, Quintana Roo.
Prizes were given out to the first mother to arrive, mother with a Victoria Secret set, mother with prettiest shoes, mother with most Jewelry, eldest mother, youngest mother, mother with the most white hair, mother with the biggest purse, among others.
Pretties Shoe Competition
All evening long the Town Council gave away hundreds of gifts in the form of raffles and prizes which were donated to the San Pedro Town Council by the many businesses and individuals of the island, included dinners at top restaurants, gift certificates from gift shops, stoves, television, a microwave and cash prizes, amongst others.
It was indeed a great night as hundreds of mothers who attended the evening’s gala left home with large smiles across their faces. The event organizers did a wonderful job and so did the many talented artists, both local and international, who provided a spectacular evening of shows for our deserving mothers.
