San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, has a team of unbeatable young winners and is making everybody very proud. The San Pedro Junior Sailing Club has been on a winning spree since the beginning of the year. Their latest triumph was at the Placencia Regatta that took place this past weekend in southern Belize.
The San Pedro Junior Sailing Club managed to secure the top three positions in the race, besting 46 other racers in competition from around the country. First place was taken by Jerdon Anderson, second place was Christian Trejo, and third place was awarded to Faith Noel for their outstanding performance!
The San Pedro Junior Sailing Club also placed in several other top spots in the top half of the regatta with: Samantha Velasquez in 5th, Blanca Velasques in 6th, Davin Puc in 8th, Katherine Salinas in 13th, Rashawn Gonzalez in 21st and Gabbi Knox in 25th.

According to the sailing kids, the San Pedro Junior Sailing Club has been “rigging hard and sailing hard” and are so happy with their success in the past regattas. Since the beginning of the season they have won the last four regattas in Corozal, Buttonwood Bay, Belize City and now Placencia.
Their next regatta will be in their hometown island of Ambergris Caye, followed by one at St. George’s Caye and then they are off to the nationals. The San Pedro Regatta is scheduled for July 5th and 6th.
The Sailing Club members and their parents hope to see as many residents possible at the hometown San Pedro Regatta showing their support for the island’s winning team. The children practice very hard and their discipline in the sports is proof of their success.

Racers sail after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and all day Saturday and Sunday at the Boca del Rio Area. There are one-on-one lessons available on Saturday and Sunday for those wanting to learn to sail in the morning which can be booked with Coach Randy at 602-4728. There is fun sailing on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. after lessons are complete.
