The devastating fire on Sunday, July 6, 2014, in the Boca Del Rio Area gutted a total of seven buildings displacing 16 families with about 88 persons including children and adults in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. The island community, including local authorities and NGO’s, immediately came together to assist the families in need.
On Thursday, July 17, 2014, Minister of Tourism, Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr, presented a check of $5,000.00Bze on behalf of the Belize Tourism Board to the San Pedro Red Cross towards the relief fund for the fire victims. On hand to receive the donation was Chairman of the San Pedro Red Cross, Mr. Eiden Salazar Jr. and Treasure, Mr. Frank Panton.
The Belize Tourism Board Staff also donated food items, clothing and toiletries which were handed over the San Pedro Red Cross to be distributed to the fire victims. Andrea Polanco, Alexander Smith and Miguel Martinez of BTB were also present for the handing over of items.
