Tourism Cooperation Agreed Between Mexico And Belize

– Press Release Belize Tourism Board, Belize City, Belize, October 3, 2014 – Today, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation of Belize and the Secretariat of Tourism of the United Mexican States on “Cooperation in the Field of Tourism.”

Honorable Manuel Heredia Jr, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation of Belize and Secretario Jose Antonio Meade Kuribrena, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States, signed the MOU during the closing session of the “VIII Meeting of the Belize-Mexico Binational Commission” held on October 2 and 3 at the Ramada Hotel in Belize City, Belize.

The objective of the MOU is “to develop and strengthen the cooperation between the Parties (Belize and Mexico) in the field of tourism, based on equal rights and mutual benefit, in compliance with their respective national legislation and international commitments undertaken by the Parties.”

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation, Honorable Manuel Hereda Jr, shared his thoughts on the signing of the MOU, “This agreement will focus particularly on how both countries can benefit from tourism, in particular, with connectivity issues dealing with air, land, and marine transportation. We have also been benefiting in tourism transportation with the ADO bus line routes to and from Belize. Both countries have also agreed to have technical and trade missions to facilitate the accomplishment of the matters set out in the MOU. We trust that by signing this memorandum, these benefits in Tourism will only increase.”

Other areas of cooperation discussed include capacity building and technical assistance with SECTUR, which is the Secretary of Tourism of the Mexican Ministry of Tourism, assistance in marketing, as well as technical assistance with FONATUR, which is the Tourism Development fund of Mexico that promotes tourism investment.

The Memorandum of Understanding between The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation of Belize and the Secretariat of Tourism of the United Mexican States on Cooperation in the field of Tourism will be available in the upcoming days on the Belize Government website and the Belize Tourism Board website, for public viewing.
