Belizean triathlete and Ambergris Caye sports advocate, Kent Bob Gabourel, held the first San Pedro 5K and 10K Run over the weekend to promote fitness and health among island residents and in part to raise funds towards his group’s participation in a full and half marathon taking place at the end of the year in Placencia, Belize.
Close to 30 residents, including athletes and fitness enthusiasts, registered for either the 5K or a 10K run that took place on Saturday, November 1, 2014, starting at the Boca del Rio Park. The response from the community was great and with sponsorship, the event could provide participation trophies to all the attendants including cash prizes to the winners of the race.
On hand to present the trophies with Gabourel was Mr. Alfonso Castillo of Castillo’s Hardware that was one of the biggest sponsors of the event, presenting a check of $1,000 towards it. Gabourel says he plans to make this a yearly event.
