Belize Fashion Week 2014 Highlights Belizean Designers

Did you know that there are at least 12 fashion designers in Belize? Well their names might not resonate like that of Versace, Cavalli or Donna Karan, but Belize holds major talent within its up and coming fashion industry. Belize Fashion Week is embracing the talent of Belizean fashion designers, showcasing them, connecting them regionally to the fashion industry and setting a platform for them to become recognized.

A few of the fashion designers at Belize Fashion Week 2014, which was held on Friday, November 21 & Saturday, November 22 in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, have already made a name for themselves in Belize. Designers like Joris Hendrik, Adrian Rocker, Francis Alfaro and Gabriel Garcia are well known and are launching big careers for themselves.

But Fashion Week was also a great platform for new designers like 16-year-old Saskia Alejos who is still attending San Pedro High School, but has a passion for clothing designing. She was one of the designers whose line shined bright on the runway over the weekend. Char Tolentino is also a local from Ambergris Caye who amazed the audience with a stunning collection of sexy swimwear.

Ambergris Today has come to understand that some of these dedicated designers have great opportunities coming their way, including fashion school abroad, career opportunities and even participation in reality TV in USA. The second annual Belize Fashion Week showcased 12 very talented local designer including Francis Alfaro, Adrian Rocker, Maureen Navarette, Joris Hendrik, Saskia Alejos, Julie McCord, Jeanna Casey, Jaiel & Danny, Andazi, Gabriel Garcia, Char Torlentino. One international designer form Panama, John Bejarano, was invited to the runway show and to share his expertise and knowledge of the industry amongst the local designers.

Needless to say, Belize Fashion Week was very entertaining and a great opportunity for all the designers who participated including the bevy of beautiful models from around the country who also took the event as an opportunity to steer their modeling careers.
