Reports coming from the Corozal Police Department in Northern Belize, as of late evening January 13, 2015, is that of a a major heroin drug bust executed by members of the Corozal formation and Anti-Drug Unit. Officials are calling it the largest such bust in Belize’s history.
The amount of drugs intercepted comes up to 15 parcels of heroin, more than 40 pounds of the lethal drug. CTV3 News, Corozal media house, reports that four persons were arrested and are pending charges from the drug bust. The heroin was found in bags on the back seat of a white, four-door Chevorlet Tahoe they were traveling in.
According to media in the mainland, the anti-drug unit acted upon information received by them and intercepted the four persons at the entrance of Corozal Town and were believed to be traveling north into Mexico. They are 32 year old Jose Antonio Lara a fisherman/Tour guide of Julio Street San Pedro, 30 year old Lenon Leonardo Tillett a BEL contractor of #20 Ebony street Belize City also of College Road Corozal Town 42 year old Gerardo Beraldo Allen, a tour guide of Back street Caye Caulker and 35 year old Heirder Martin Perez an administrative assistant for Hol Chan Marine Reserve of Escalante Subdivision San Pedro Town. Perez is the holder of a licensed 9 mm pistol which was in his possession loaded with 13 live rounds.
That quantity of the drug has a street value in the vicinity of $5MilUS. This is the second major drug bust for the ADU in the north in 5 months; in August they found 120 pounds of crystal meth – also on the backseat of a car – in Orange Walk Town. That illicit cargo was also believed to be headed north to Mexico.
