Island kids go back to school today and with the initiative of San Pedro Town Councilor Hector ‘Tito’ Alamilla, over 50 of those students went back to school with fresh haircuts. The San Pedro Town Council, in conjunction with Baller’s Barber Shop gave away free haircuts to underprivileged boys who were eager and ready to head back to the classroom feeling revived and energized.
On Sunday, August 30, 2015, Councilor Tito Alamilla personally went to pick up young boys from the San Mateo and San Pedrito areas and took them to Baller’s Barber Shop so that they could receive their free haircuts. Alamilla had personally scouted the boys a week before as he arranged with barber Brian Acosta to provide the service free of cost.
Brian Acosta gave up his Sunday morning and offered his services to the Town Council so that these young boys would feel great going back to school, knowing that they look clean and sharp with fresh haircuts.
“It brings a big smile to my face seeing how happy these boys look after giving them a haircut,” commented Brian to Ambergris Today. “Most of these boys have not had their hair cut in months as their families struggle to get their school books, uniforms and supplies ready for when school commences. They priorities on other essential things and leave the haircuts for last, but many don’t realize how great these children feel going back to school with a clean haircut.”
The program targeted less fortunate kids of the island and Councilor Alamilla handed out 75 coupons with little over 50 taking advantage of the free service.
“I would like to thank The San Pedro Town Council for supporting an initiative I have always wanted to introduce to my island,” commented Tito Alamilla on his Facebook page. “They look all sharp and clean before entering the new school year. I would also like to ‘Big Up” Ballarz Barber Shop for being part of this initiative; thank you Brian Acosta for your time and putting a smile on the face of this young boys.”
