Saturday, October 10, 2015, the successful organization SHINE (Shaping Healthy Identities through Nurturing and Empowerment) kicked off its second annual program with a new set of young girls along with founder Michelle Nuñez, Miss San Pedro 2015 Iris Salguero, Alexis Guerrero and Senior Shine Members.
Orientation took place at Banyan Bay Resort where 15 new members embarked on what would be a two-month journey that entails of six lessons plans that will build their confidence, strength and productivity.
“On the first day the girls met for the first time, enjoyed snacks, drinks and decorated their folders which will be used throughout the course,” commented Michelle to Ambergris Today.
During their busy schedules, the girls took the time to put in a little workout at Cardio Dance Club with Gerry Badillo. This is the second time Shine and Cardio Dance Club teamed up to bring some smiles, and a little sweat, to these young ladies. At the exercise session, the girls acknowledge the importance of working out in a stress free environment.
“I am also glad to announce the participation of the San Pedro High School Councilor Alexis Guerrero,” commented Michelle. She was instrumental in scouting the girls for my program. Also, look out for the photo shoot with Karen Brodie and graduation day is scheduled for Saturday, November 28.”
SHINE’s curriculum includes lessons in self-esteem/ self-confidence, body image, sexual risk behavior, drugs and alcohol, decision-making and communication skills and future goals and ambitions.
Michelle extends ‘Huge Thanks’ to Banyan Bay, On Eagles Wings Ministries and all those who are contributing to the success of the program. Learn more about SHINE by visiting www.oneagleswingsministries.org, email shinebz@oewm.net or follow them on Facebook.
