It was a pageant show blunder heard, tweeted and talked about all over the world. Miss Universe Pageant Host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced the winner of Miss Universe 2015 pageant as Miss Colombia when in fact the judges had selected Miss Philippines as the new Miss Universe representative.
Well, with all the social media attention the incident is receiving the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) capitalized on the social media trends and released a post inviting the comedian to host the 2016 Costa Maya Festival held in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize held in August.
Below is the BTB’s Tweet:
“Dear @IAMSteveHarvey, we all make mistakes. You handled yours with class. Would you like to hose our next pageant? @CostaMayaFest #MissUniverse2015”
Commenting on its Facebook Page the BTB said the following: “We understand that everyone makes mistakes. So, we invited Steve Harvey to host our Costa Maya Festival in 2016. Here are some media stories that picked it up so far: http://nydn.us/1Pkt4wX , http://bit.ly/1JsF3Cu“
International media publications including the New York Daily News and Deadline Hollywood picked up on the Tweet and started making headlines for Belize and the Costa Maya Festival.
“Steve Harvey flubbed hosting Miss Universe in Vegas, but he can redeem himself in Belize,” stated the NY Daily News. “A spokesperson told the News that the tourism board believes Harvey would be a great host even after watching Sunday’s trainwreck, which crowned two different Miss Universe winners in two minutes.”
The BTB has been actively promoting the country on social media as a major tourism destination, part of the Board’s digital marketing strategy. This is another great opportunity the board has taken to promote Belize. It is not yet known if Mr. Harvey has responded to the BTB’s Tweet.
