On Tuesday evening, February 23, 2016, at about 9:30p.m., San Pedro Police officers were called to Mr. Francisco Arceo’s dock located on Tarpon Street where they found the lifeless body of Frank Luis Edwards Jr. inside a 16-foot skiff.
Edwards, 27-years-old Belizean fisherman, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, stomach, neck and face. His body was retrieved from the boat and taken to the San Pedro Polyclinic where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 10:06p.m. by resident doctor Renae Sersland.
Police believe that the motive for the murder is retaliation for drug/murder cases in the past in which Edwards has been linked to. Frank is no stranger to the San Pedro Police Department and has been in and out of court in several cases, including the 2009 murder case of James Swan and Edward “Bro Lee” Gutierrez in which he and three other men were acquitted of murder and set free.
Initial investigations revealed that on that evening, about 8:50p.m., Frank Edwards was at home in the San Mateo area when he heard a knock on the door and heard someone shouting “Police”. It was when he opened the door that he was shot multiple times; his assailants then managed to escape onboard a skiff through the lagoon area behind his house.
Family members had placed Edwards in his boat and transported to Mr. Francisco Arceo’s dock on Tarpon Street, San Pedro Town. Both scenes, the one at the dock on Tarpon Street and Edwards’ residence in San Mateo were processed where police found (17) .45 auto expended shells, (14) .9mm expended shells, (2) 12 gauge expended cartridges, (1) 12 gauge life cartridge, (3) .45 slug, (2) .9mm slug and (5) pellets.
San Pedro Police has since then detained two people for the murder of Edwards.
