San Pedro High School celebrated Drug Awareness Week filled with events targeting the student body knowing that drug use amongst teenagers is prevalent within societies world-wide.
Students started the week by receiving a motivational speech based on drugs from Inspector Brent Hamilton from Belize’s National K9 Unit. With the assistance of Detective Barigton Bracket and a K9 Handler, they demonstrated how easily drugs are located and identified. The opening ceremony ended with students, teachers and invited guests releasing balloons into the air in memory of those who have passed away due to drug misuse and for those who are currently addicted.
On Tuesday, March 28, students had the opportunity to decorate their classroom doors with artwork under the theme “Put A Cap on Drugs” as a sign of awareness. Prizes were given for the Best Decorated Door.
On Wednesday, all students and teachers came together to decorate a mural inside the school’s compound by placing their handprints and signatures on a wall in agreement to live a drug free life!
The Drug Awareness Run was held on Thursday, March 30, at 5:00 a.m. from Grand Caribe and ended at San Pedro High School. Prizes were given and winners are as follows:
Drug Awareness Week ended with a Festival of Arts based on drug awareness where students got to portray how drug are used, abused and how some have overdosed and have even passed away due to it.
All in all, it was a week filled with fun learning activities and Ambergris Today congratulates the Principal and Teachers of San Pedro High School for embracing this week and providing students with the knowledge of Drug misuse. Good Job SPHS!
