Easter weekend in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye is definitely one of the busiest of the year and one of the biggest celebrations on the island. Whether it’s celebration through religious activities, beach parties or sports activities the island is packed with visitors. Belizeans from all around the country travel to the island for this specific time of the year. Hotels and golf cart rentals have to be booked months in advance because it is impossible to find one during that period.
In preparation for the Easter activities that will take place on April 14,15 and 16, The San Pedro Town Council has already started to beautify the island in preparation of the masses to give them a warm welcome.
On March 20, the road on North Ambergris Caye was resurfaced. No more bumpy rides between Las Terrazas and Journeys End; for those staying up north it will be a smoother ride.
Since most Easter activities are to take place at the Central Park, On March 22, volunteers of Projects Abroad, along with members of the San Pedro Town Council, gathered to repaint the benches and planters.
A clean up campaign started on March 23, as residents from Boca Del Rio and San Juan Area were asked to take out their trash while San Pedro Town Council employees, along with volunteers, went around picking it up.
Lately, with tons of sargassum piling up on the beaches, the San Pedro Town Council filled large sections of beach area with more white sand that has been lost during the sargassum cleanup efforts. This took place over the March 25-26 weekend.
Street repairs at the corner of Tarpon Street and Angel Coral Street began on March 31. Making sure all streets are available and easy to use during the Easter Holidays is important especially since the streets will be very busy.
However, with all the fun expected during Easter break, the San Pedro Town Council respects the religious celebrations of our founding fishermen and the San Pedro Roman Catholic Church. The sale of liquor is prohibited as of 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017. No liquor is to be sold on Friday, April 14, 2017.
