BDF Conducts First Helicopter Rescue Mission – 3 Children Saved

The Ministry of Defence wishes to inform the public that the Belize Defence Force Air Wing (BDF AW) carried out its first Rescue Mission using the UH1H, on July 8, 2017. The mission was carried out in the village of San Benito Poite in the Toledo District, where three children, ages 10, 14 and 16 years old, were rescued.

The three children went on a fishing expedition and were stranded on the far bank of the Poite River that had crested above normal due to a flash flood. As a result, the Hammock Bridge was damaged making it unusable and the main bridge was submerged making it impassable.
