Belize to Establishment National Standard Vehicle Registration & Drivers Licensing System

On Wednesday, July 12, 2017 in Belmopan City, Minister of Transport Hon Edmond Castro headed a team which met with consultants from Taiwan and Belize’s Central Information Technology Office (CITO) for discussions on the establishment of a new nationwide vehicle registration and driver’s licensing system utilizing one national database, with one standard license format and protocol.

This is in accordance with a memorandum of understanding signed a month ago in which Taiwan committed assistance for the US $2.8 Million project through its International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF).

Hon Castro was accompanied in the meeting by Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Transport, Ms Ruth Meighan; Chief Transport Officer, Mr Tirso Galvez; and Licensing and Registration Officer in the Department of Transport, Mr Vallan Hyde. The Team of Belizean consultants was headed by Director of the Central Information Technology Office (CITO), Mr Francisco Gonzalez.

The memorandum of understanding was signed on June 8, 2017 by Belize’s Financial Secretary, Mr Joseph Waight; Chief Technology Officer, Mr Michael Singh; and Taiwan’s Ambassador to Belize, H.E Charles Keh-Yue Liu.
