The San Pedro Catholic Church rendered tribute to the Virgin of Guadalupe on Thursday, December 12, 2017. The Feast Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe saw reverence by Catholics and Guadalupanos paying tribute to her as is done in thousands of churches throughout Mexico and now a grand celebration here in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Belize.
This year things were done a bit different but with the same solemnity and love for her. The Mañanitas took place at 4a.m. at the Catholic Church with San Pedro’s very own Mariachi Mr. Javier Castillo followed by an hour of singing and a Holy Rosary in her honor. Mass commenced at 5:30a.m. and was officiated by Father David Mumba.
In the evening a processing around town took place followed by a church fair with the sale of food and refreshments at Friendship Park. Entertainment and homage to the Virgin Saint was quiet a success and included poems by church groups, dances by the San Pedro Dance Academy, songs by Elina Palma, Vatranny Perez and Marthalicia Vasquez, performances by the Arts and Crafts group of the San Pedro RC Church and musical performances by Gaven, Vivian and Diego, to name a few.
Families presented floral arrangements at the foot of the La Guadalupana’s altar, making their silent petition, and “Thank You’s”. From dawn till dusk it was a beautiful celebration in honor of La Guadalupana.
