Local Fisherman/Tour Guide Gilberto Lara in Shooting Incident

Information has arrived to Ambergris Today that local fisherman and tourist guide Gilberto “Hilliboo” Lara has been shot but is in stable condition at the Karl Heusner Hospital in Belize City. Reports are that Lara was shot one time on his left side of his chest but that the wound was superficial and that he should recover well. The incident took place at around 3:30a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018, in the San Juan Area of Ambergris Caye. Reports indicate that San Pedro Police have no suspects or motive for the shooting incident at the time.

Police Investigating Attempted Murder
Official Release Update January 20, 11:30a.m.:

On 20.1.2018 about 3:30 a.m., Police observed Gilberto Lara 48 year old  Belizean Tour Guide of  a San Pedro address  suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the left side of his chest and, Katherine Vanessa Torres Zelaya 25 year old Honduran waitress like wise of San Pedro address with a graze to her right upper back. Initial investigations revealed that both persons were travelling on a golf cart on Sea Weed Street, San Juan Area when they heard shots and realized that they were both shot. They then drove to the Police Station where they were transported to the Polyclinic. Gilberto Lara was later transported to KHMH in a critical condition and underwent surgery around midday. Katherine was treated and released; Police are investigating.
