Nomination Day was held on Wednesday, February 22, 2018, in the heels of the upcoming Town Council Elections. Both political parties presented their candidates who were officially nominated to run for a seat at the Town Council elections on March 7, 2018.
The People’s United Party (PUP) and crowd of supporters hit the streets around 10a.m. and paraded through the streets to downtown San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, and down to the Town Hall where nominations were carried out by Rerurning Officer Catherine Cumberbatch and Election Clerk Leodan Torres.
The following is the list of candidates and their nominators:
PUP Mayoral Candidate:
*Andre Perez: Lucilo Guerrero and Gualberto Nunez
PUP Councilor Candidates:
*Marina Kay: Conchita Flota and Leonel Reyes
*Ian Pou: Ana Lopez and Martin Dawson
*Dina Graniel: Miguel Samuel Cáliz and Ulises Alejandro urizar
*Dianelli Aranda: María “Bina” Kumul and Miguel Perez
*Johnnia Duarte: Consuelo Nunez and Luis Cesar Rivero
*Ruben Navidad: Omar Arceo and Reymundo Nunez
While the United Democratic Party marched at 1:30pm with their crowd of supporters and music by Super Furia band. The candidates and nominators for the UDP are as follows:
UDP Mayoral candidate:
*Daniel Guerrero: Manuel Heredia Jr and Philip Leslie
UDP Councilor candidates:
*Severo Guerrero: Ricardo Verde and Jose Alberto Nuñez
*Gary Greif: Kristian Guerrero and Johnny Greif IV
*Gabriel Nuñez: Manuel Leiva and Richard Cordova
*Flora Ancona: Ivette Ramirez and Carlos Barrientos
*Hector Alamilla: Pablo Ico and Joseph Elijio
*Ruben Gonzalez: Elsa Paz and Ramon Guerrero
With the nominations taken place, the San Pedro Town Council has officially been dissolved, which means that no new transactions or projects can be taken by the councilors until after elections. The Town Council is only to work on the daily routines that keep the town running. Municipal elections are set for Wednesday, March 7, 2018 and the polling station will be #37 – the San Pedro High School.
