UDP San Pedro Town Council Sworn In as PUP Pushes for New Election

While the People’s United Party heads to court today, Wednesday, March 14, to contest the final results of the recent municipal elections in San Pedro, the United Democratic Party held its official swearing in ceremony of the San Pedro Town Mayor and six councilors.

Mayor Daniel Guerrero and his six councilors were re-instated as members of the Town Council for a third time on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Each councilor’s portfolio was announced, including that Ruben Gonzalez was appointed new Deputy Mayor of San Pedro.

“The San Pedro Town Council and the UDP Family got a wakeup call,” commented Mayor Daniel Guerrero. “We must respect the results…We need to organize; we need to get stronger. Actually, what happened on elections just energized us more now. There will be a lot of work to be done, we need to work harder now. We will be meeting new challenges, we are not stepping down, we are not giving up and we are coming with full force. It’s time to unite and move this island forward; we have been elected and we need to serve every single person across the border.”

“The PUP can jump high; can jump low. Elections are over and this is what will remain for the next three years,” commented Manuel Heredia regarding the PUP questioning the integrity of the recent election process and ballot counting. “Come 2020, they can give us another fight, but for now this is the official results and it will remain as such.”

The San Pedro PUP state that there are 275 unaccounted for ballots in one of the boxes and that there is significant discrepancies in the election process which is more than enough to put a shadow of a doubt on the results in San Pedro Town. Today, they will appeal to the Belize courts for a new election procces on the island. (Click Here to read more)
