Oceana Belize happily announced on their Facebook page that the Government of Belize plans on implementing an indfeinte moratorium on pffshore exploration in Belize, the legislation is to be called “People’s Law”.
“A date in history! On August 15th 2017, the Government of Belize announced the plan to implement an indefinite moratorium on offshore oil. The Prime Minister of Belize, Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow made the formal announcement in the House of Representatives two days later. The legislation is called “People’s Law” because it is the people of Belize who will determine its longevity. In June 2018, the Law was a critical factor in the removal of Belize from the UNESCO World Heritage Sites In Danger list.” – Statement from Oceana Belize via Facebook.
