Exotic Caye Beach Resort Makes Room for the New Belize Marriott

As the saying goes, out with the old and in with the new, and such is the case with the resort once known as Exotic Caye Beach Resort.  It’s time to make room for the future Marriott Residences Ambergris Caye Resort.

While it may have been faster to simply take a wrecking ball and demolish all of the structures in one fell swoop, in the spirit of conservation and good stewardship, each building is being carefully dismantled in an effort to preserve any reusable parts that could be donated to the community.

Over the last several weeks, island residents may have noticed the former resort starting to be dismantled, starting with the older thatch roofed cabanas. Materials from the first buildings were donated to the Living Word Church, including wood, furniture and appliances and material from both the interior and exterior of the buildings was donated to a number of locals.

Most recently, the building that has housed Melt Café, Coconut Café, and most recently, Manatee Mack’s has been disassembled.  Over the course of several days the building has been carefully taken apart, piece by piece to salvage the usable windows, doors, wood beams, and flooring. Some of the wood from this building was donated to the Marco Gonzalez Maya Site, located at the southern end of the island. The wood will be used to make much needed improvements to the pathways of this unique archeological site.

As we continue to disassemble the remnants of Exotic Caye Beach Resort, the remaining wood and furniture will be donated to organizations within the community that can put them to good use. Corporate social responsibility and sustainability are deeply rooted in the culture of ECI Development as a means of giving back to the communities that we work and live in. – End Release
