On Monday, July 8, 2019, Raymond Lamb, 32 year-old, a fisherman of San Pedro Town, appeared before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts Anderson in Belize City and was arraigned on a charge of burglary in which jewelry, money and other items were stolen that amounted in value to $42,490.
According to reports on Saturday, July 6, 2019, Lamb was caught red-handed when he entered the home of Misty Harris at a well-known resort on the island and stole an assortment of items ranging from cell phones to jewelry valued at just over forty-two thousand dollars.
Lamb pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecutor objected to bail being granted to him on several grounds — one of which was that the offence of burglary has become prevalent and that the court has a special duty to assist the security forces in combating crime. Thirdly, Lamb was recently convicted of a similar offence which occurred in San Pedro in which he was also fined. And lastly, the defendant was positively identified by two persons and the incident is still an ongoing investigation since none of the stolen items have been recovered.
Senior Magistrate Anderson denied him bail in the first instance and remanded him to the Belize Central Prison until September 3, 2019 for his next court date.
