University of Belize and SP Junior College sign MOU

On Thursday, August 1, 2019 the University of Belize (UB) and San Pedro Junior College (SPJC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the aim of providing tertiary level education up to a Bachelor’s Degree in San Pedro. The signing took place at the conference room at San Pedro High School. Singing the MOU were Clement Sankat – President of UB, Dean of Faculty of Educationand Arts – Nestor Chan, Dean for the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences – Dr. Bernard Watler and Gustavo Ellis Dean of San Pedro Junior College.

“Our driving mission of UB is to bring education to all quadrants of Belize, to make UB accessible to everybody, especially communities that are distant so that people can have access to education without having to go through the trouble of travelling to the mainland. Education changes people’s lives and we want to see you change your lives,” stated President of UB, Clement Sankat.

The plan is to offer an Associate’s Degree in early childhood education and primary education which will lead to a Bachelor’s Degree as well.

The secondary teaching program (Bachelor’s Degree) will be available with a major in English, Math or Science and can hopefully kick start by January 2020 with a minimum of 15 students taking the course.

Also in the Business program they will be offering a bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management with a Major in Hospitality Management in a course of three years in which students will be taking four courses per semester.

Individuals interested in signing up for the program can visit the an Pedro High School office for registration forms which are to be submitted directly to UB or register online at www.ub.edu.bz
