Simone Biles, world-renowned Olympic gymnast and gold medalist, was presented with a symbolic key to San Pedro Town by Mayor Daniel Guerrero at a short ceremony that took place at Pineapples Restaurant, Ramon’s Village on Wednesday, November 27, 2019.
Mayor Guerrero mentioned that islanders are honored in having Biles visit San Pedro, Ambergris Caye as she keeps her native Belizean family and home at heart wherever she travels.The athlete said that her favorite destination would always be Belize as she holds dual citizenship through her mother, Nellie Cayetano Biles.
He was delighted to present Biles with the a symbolic key to the island during the observance of the 35th anniversary of San Pedro’s Township. Accompanying Mayor Guerrero were Deputy Mayor Gabriel Nunez, other Town Councilors, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr., Miss San Pedro Litzy Castillo and a group of island athletes who were excited to meet Simone Biles. Simone also presented gifts to the Mayor and Minister and took time to take pictures with the island athletes and other invited guests of the evening. The Olympic champion came to Belize on a Thanksgiving vacation as she prepares to compete in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
This trip is one of her family’s many visits to Belize and Ambergris Caye. Simone was also presented with the keys to Belize City back in December 2016.
