Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) advises customers in Caye Caulker that the new 1705kW capacity generation unit sourced from Panama in early January, is now scheduled for commissioning on the island by Tuesday, February 18 following delays at ports in neighboring countries.
The unit is currently at the port in Santo Tomas, Guatemala, awaiting Customs clearance before transportation by land to the Belize/Guatemala border at Benque Viejo, Cayo. It is expected that the unit will arrive in Belize, by Wednesday, February 12 then taken to the Port of Belize for transshipment by sea to Caye Caulker.
Upon arrival on the island, BEL teams will conduct checks to ensure that the unit functions reliably and consistently, and commission into service. This process will take approximately three days. In preparation for the arrival of the unit on the island, BEL conducted upgrades to the Caye Caulker substation last Friday.
BEL assures customers that all efforts are being made to ensure a reliable supply of electricity to Caye Caulker and will provide updates on the arrival status of the new generation unit.
