PRESS RELEASE – Tuesday, March 17, 2020 – Mayor Daniel Guerrero and the San Pedro Town Council hereby informs the general public that preventative measures will be applied in order to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors from the coronavirus (COVID-19).

In agreement with the press conference held on, Monday, March 17, 2020, by the Prime Minister of Belize, Hon. Dean Barrow and the Leader of the Opposition, as they mentioned, “Limit Social Gatherings no more than 100 persons”, the San Pedro Town Council is forced to cancel the following events and activities: Mother’s Day Extravaganza, Teacher’s Day, All Easter events/activities and the International Costa Maya Festival.

Also, in this effect, the San Pedro Town Council will not be granting permission for the use of the Central Park or any public space for any event or activity from now until July. The Ambergris Stadium and the Hon. Louis Sylvester Sports Complex (formerly Saca Chispas Field) will be closed completely to public access. Events and/or activities scheduled for July onwards are to be put on hold until the Government of Belize clears the limit on social gatherings.

In order to further secure our safety, the San Pedro Town Council and the San Pedro Liquor Licensing Board will not be issuing Liquor License extensions to any establishment nor for any private event, effective immediately.

The SPTC kindly asks everyone to keep informed, practice social distancing and practice good hygiene.  Please be reminded that schools will be closing on Friday, March 20, 2020, for fourteen days – this is not a vacation.

The SPTC kindly asks everyone for their cooperation and understanding during this time.
