The enhanced surveillance system of the Ministry of Health has identified a fourth case of COVID-19 in a 55-year-old male who resides in San Ignacio, Cayo District. The patient tested positive in a confirmatory test ran earlier today, April 3rd, 2020, at 1:16 a.m.
The person had a fever, mild cough, and difficulty breathing five days ago, and was referred for medical care at a public care facility on Tuesday, March 31st. A swab was taken, and screening and confirmatory tests were done on the sample confirming the results. He is currently in an isolated area within the Western Regional Hospital compound.
A mapping exercise has begun so that the Ministry can ascertain his level of contact as he has no travel history. This case is being assumed to be a community transmission, but at the end of the preliminary exercise today, the Ministry will be able to better classify how he may have become infected.
