The Island Academy is the first school on Ambergris Caye to hold it’s graduation ceremony for 2020, but there was nothing typical of the occasion as the COVID-19 Pandemic forced the school to hold it’s ceremony online, probably the first in the country.
Zoom was the application of choice to conduct the graduation ceremony as the senior class consisted of only nine students. Speeches, congratulatory messages and farewells were giving on Thursday, May 28, by parents, teachers, and faculty to celebrate the accomplishment of the senior class.
On Friday, May 29, the seniors were surprised by the Island Academy as teachers and administration took to the streets on a golf cart parade and visited each graduate to present them with their diploma. It was a wonderful surprise and unique touch to the graduating class that could not partake in a traditional graduating ceremony.
