Mayor Wally Nuñez and Councilors Officially Sworn into Office

At a small gathering attended by key party supporters, family and friend of the People’s United Party, Mayor Gualberto Wally Nuñez and his councilors were officially sworn into office on Monday, March 8, 2021 at the Ambergris Stadium. Hon. Andre Perez, Area Representative and Minister of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, delivered the welcome address after which the official swearing in was carried out by Mr. Eduardo Aguilar, Legal Counsel and Mrs. Evelia Paz, Justice of the Peace.

“Together with your newly elected Town Council, I am overly elated to offer you this evening a cool and refreshing welcome,” commented Hon. Perez. “As your duly elected Area Representative, I will be the first to assure the residents of Ambergris Caye that my support and commitment to the newly elected Town Council is unequivocally sincere and firm. Be assured that I will be your biggest advocate in Belmopan, ensuring that what is due to our beautiful town is granted to us in a fair and abundant manner.”

Hon. Perez stated that he was encouraged by the presence of the Prime Minister of Belize, Hon. John Briceño, and Minister of Health and Wellness Hon. Michel Chebat at the ceremony last night. He referred it as a signal that Belmopan (Government) is with San Pedro and that he will ensure that he is allowed a persistent voice for the Town Council and the people of San Pedro at the highest levels necessary.

Both Hon. Briceño and Chebat stressed their unwavering support for the island with strong initiative to revive the island and bring it back to its glory days as a tourism heaven, post COVID-19.

Mayor Wally assured the people of San Pedro that he will work tirelessly in order to achieve good governance. He stated that it is his intention to be connected with the people and that his new administration, under his leadership, will be transparent, pro-people, prudent, fair, responsible and hardworking. He congratulated members of the opposing team for being part of the democratic process and for their valor to offer themselves as candidates.

“I must express my unending gratitude to the people of San Pedro,” stated Mayor Wally Nunez. “For their strong show of support, the actions of my people are a testament that democracy lives and is evident through the power of the ballot box. I am honored to be her on behalf of the people of San Pedro.”

“The reality is that the current economic situation is unspeakably awful in our island, but one might fail to realize that San Pedro and its people have fought many battles in the past. Our people fight from the heart, but no fight has proven to be as disastrous to the very fabric of our society as the COVID-19 pandemic. We shall prevail.”

“Our predicament will depend whether we choose to fight among ourselves or join force and fight the common enemy. Therefore, my primary stipulation, along with my team, we will joining forces with the private sector, governmental agencies, non-governmental agencies and organization to introduce plans and ideas in order to boost hope and improve the economic situation of our people.”
