BTB Provides Enhanced Health and Safety Training for San Pedro Tour Guides

The Belize Tourism Board concluded a two-day Enhanced Health and Safety Training for Tour Guides on Friday, October 8, 2021. The training sessions were held in conjunction with the San Pedro Tour Guide Association, at the San Pedro Junior College while following all COVID-19 guidelines.

The training was designed to foster guidance on how to conduct tours while following globally recommended COVID-19 Health & Safety Precautions, familiarize the participants with the Tourism Gold Standard Protocols for Guides, and provide a forum to exchange views on how to keep both guides and guests safe. The two-day sessions were attended by a total of 64 Tour Guides from the San Pedro Tour Guide Association, as well as other guides in the area.

The sessions served as an opportunity to reiterate the important role carried out by our tour guides in ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols by guests, and in providing a quality and memorable experience to our guests.

This was further emphasized by Mr. Billy Leslie, President, San Pedro Tour Guide Association who noted, “COVID-19 is here to stay and as guides we play a vital role in safeguarding our country when tourists visit. This training was well planned and well executed. It reminded guides to constantly be on the alert and follow all the safety protocols such as mask wearing, social distancing and proper sanitization procedures. Our San Pedro Guides are an important part of rebuilding the economy so these opportunities to prepare them to stay safe are welcomed.”  The Belize Tourism Board, in its commitment to capacity building, says it will continue similar training sessions in our major tourism destinations countrywide in the upcoming weeks of 2021.
