In response to the escalating demand for healthcare services in tandem with the rapid growth of the island, a new medical facility has opened its doors to cater to the residents of Ambergris Caye. Today, Monday, January 8, 2024, Dr. Kristy Patricia Marin proudly inaugurated Island Care Medical Center, a private practice located in the San Pablo Area south of San Pedro Town.
The opening ceremony commenced with the ceremonial ribbon-cutting by Dr. Kristy Patricia Marin, a general physician who graduated from the Universidad Dr. Jose Matias Delgado in El Salvador in 2021. Recognizing the critical need for enhanced medical facilities, Fr. Eduardo Montemayor blessed the center, and Mayor Wally Nuñez, along with Councilors Aranda and Duarte, expressed their support and conveyed the town’s well-wishes to Dr. Marin.
Mayor Nuñez, acknowledging the importance of accessible healthcare, stated, “We are making primary healthcare more accessible to our residents through a unique partnership with Dr. Kristy Patricia Marin of Island Care Medical Center. We thank her for giving back to our community.”
Dr. Marin, driven by a passion for medicine, aims to contribute to the well-being of the community by providing essential healthcare services. Graduating as a general practitioner in 2021, she chose to return to her island home of Ambergris Caye to establish Island Care Medical Center. She is also teaching at the Washington University of Health and Science, the medical school located on the island.
In addition to her current services, Dr. Marin envisions expanding the center to include a pharmacy, laboratory, and collaboration with specialized doctors to offer more affordable and comprehensive medical services to the community.
Island Care Medical Center marks a significant milestone for Dr. Marin, who views it as a dream come true. The center is poised to play a vital role in meeting the escalating healthcare needs of the growing population on Ambergris Caye.
