The San Pedro community is once again trying to come to terms with heartbreaking news after learning of the tragic deaths of well-known businessman David Harmouch and supermarket security guard Daniel Jones, who were fatally shot Sunday night, June 28, 2026, at Island Supermarket in the Tres Cocos area.
A third person who was inside the supermarket at the time of the attack was also shot and remains in critical condition. Police have launched an investigation into what has become another devastating act of violence on the island.
For many residents, the news hit especially hard because David Harmouch was more than just a businessman. He was part of the Harmouch family, whose entrepreneurial spirit and businesses have become well known in the San Pedro community. Friends, customers, and fellow business owners have expressed disbelief, describing David Harmouch as a respectful, hardworking, and kind individual whose life was cut short far too soon.
David Harmouch’s Death Has Island Shaken

The tragedy comes at an especially painful time for the Harmouch family. Just seven days ago, Island Supermarket celebrated its reopening after rebuilding from a devastating fire that destroyed the business only three days after its grand opening in December 2025. At the time, owner Ahmad Harmouch promised the community the supermarket would return “stronger than before.”
Instead of celebrating a fresh start, the family now finds itself grieving an unimaginable loss.
A statement issued on the Hermoush association in Lebanon
“Belize has always been our second and beloved country after Lebanon. Our family and our youth lived with their families as brothers and friends, our youth married their flowers, and mixed blood together, and we became one family. On behalf of me and my Hermoush family, we express our deepest gratitude for your compassion and love shown to our patients.
Meanwhile, we demand the friendly state of Belize to hold the criminal accountable, and give him the harshest legal punishment.” – The Hermosh Bond
The fatal shooting has left the entire island shaken. It is another painful reminder that behind every headline are families whose lives are changed forever, employees who lose coworkers, customers who lose friends, and a community left searching for answers.
San Pedro has always been known as a close-knit island where business owners know their customers by name and neighbors look out for one another. Incidents like this send shockwaves throughout the community because they affect all of us in one way or another.
As police continue their investigation, residents are hoping those responsible are brought swiftly to justice. Today, however, the focus remains on mourning the lives that were lost, praying for the individual who continues to fight for survival, and standing with the Harmouch family and the loved ones of Daniel Jones during this incredibly difficult time.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to all the families, friends, and employees affected by this senseless tragedy. May David Harmouch and Daniel Jones rest in peace.
