A Pelican's Life in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye

The Brown Pelican is the smallest of the species and a common sight along the shores of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize. It spends its days diving for food, gliding inches above the surface of the water and perched on pier pilings soaking up the sun, just hanging around. Pictured here is a mature Brown Pelican with white neck feathers and yellow plumage on its head. The juvenile Brown Pelican, in the background, has a more brownish-grey neck and white underparts.
