Being Authentic

“We create our world with the ingredients we put into it, so take care with your recipe. – Greg Phillips”

We write to learn. Most penmanship is an attempt to reveal an idea. “Secrets to Life” came out of pursuing deeper meaning. I share with you the readers my discourse as I discover this inner journey. Most of these thoughts come from contemplating interaction with people and nature. This is a journey to find authenticity of our human nature. The source made everything in the universe unique onto itself. A flower never declares to a blade of grass growing beside it. “You are doing it wrong; you should have nice yellow petals sprouting at your side like me, instead of those straight green blades”.

Understanding how each of us is unique is an essential part of questioning who we are and why humanity exists. To help you find an answer to this ancient and universal question, I offer you a new way of looking at things.

Your natural abilities, are made up of qualities such as your gifts and talents, describes the details of who you are. Your natural gifts and talents are activities you do naturally without effort. They are the things that often get overlooked by you because you take them for granted. Most people have about 5-10 talents inside of them. Others around you are more likely to notice them more than you. To discover them if you don’t know, just listen to what others say you excel at. If you can guess what song is going to be a hit on the radio, this is a gift and combined with your personal other abilities; this can become a unique contribution to the world. This is one description that defines how you are unique on this planet.

Just as no two grains of sand are alike, you are like no one else. You are the only one who has your exact combination, which defines your potential. So that is why there has been only one Michelangelo, one Einstein, one Martin Luther King, and one Gandhi — and why there will be only one you.

You were created to fulfill your unique role in life. Each human being possesses a unique combination of personality, talents, timing and circumstances – a specific role to play in this world. The timing is especially important. We live in a lifetime that is full of change, and our gifts are to keep us productive in the changing turmoil of the economy and conditions in the world. Our role is dependent on many factors – not only our innate talents, but also on the needs of the times. The important thing is to discover your unique contribution – and fulfill it. Knowledge is responsibility. If you know something, you’re responsible to share it and act on it. That’s part of knowing your place.

Being sensitive to others is one of the most important steps in knowing your place. Don’t just “be” with people. Notice them. Where are others strong and where are they weak? That will help you better understand where you stand. As well as the abilities you possess differently from them.

We often refer to the human race as a contest and focus on who is winning and who is falling behind. But perhaps the race is not just about winning, but who shows up to run it, and the type of race they run. Many times, the victorious ones are the individuals who make the race their own.

As you race through life take the time to ask yourself this question. Do you have all the information and tools you need to express your unique potential and live an extraordinary life before you run out of time?
