Fire up your love life

By Christopher Emmanuel

Maintaining a healthy and happy relationship is not always an easy task. Great relationships take work. Even the most compatible of lovebirds will encounter cold spells and roadblocks on their journey to “happily ever after.” Keeping the flame burning between you and your mate requires daily commitment to ensure interest and passion continues long term. No matter how great you get along at the start, you are sure to come against some bumpy spots in the long run. But if you want to fire up the cool coals of your love, here are a few simple things you can do to create a more successful relationship.

Praise and compliments: Praise is such a great gift, and it’s so easy to give. So look at the things that makes your spouse unique and develop the habit of praising them for those special things. If you have trouble saying it do this: Write love notes and place them on their pillow or any place where you know they will frequent throughout the day or night. This is also a great way to patch things up after those heated moments.

Get Advise: If problems in your relationship are eroding your communication with each other, don’t go it alone. Welcome fresh insights of other perspectives-from extended family, friends, good marriage books, or a qualified marriage counselor. When you can talk about your problems, it is the beginning of finding a solution.

Weekly date night: Make a rule that you and your spouse go out together at least once a week. You might go for a walk, grab a bite to eat, or plan a special outing. Just because you live together does not mean you can’t be dating all over again! Don’t bring your friends either; this is a time for just the two of you. Leave the kids behind also. Don’t lose your romance as a couple.

I love you: For most couples, saying the words “I love you” can become routine. Rediscover the importance of these three little words by remembering to say them at least once a day. And don’t just repeat them; find new, exciting, or even funny ways to spout your love for your partner. Try slipping a note in his/her pocket, tracing it in the bathroom mirror after a hot shower, or even just whispering it to her first thing in the morning!

The ten-second kiss: When was the last time you kissed your spouse? Really, truly, passionately kissed them? Chances are it’s been awhile! Make the time to kiss your partner. Kiss your partner before leaving home. Add a hug while you’re at it! A ten second kiss can start your day off right. And, don’t forget to kiss them when you come home!

Give each other a break: When you come home, give each other 30 minutes to unwind quietly and leave work behind. Taking time to clear your mind of your day will help you from transferring any work problems into your home life.

Now that I have given you some of my tips for a happy relationship, discuss with your loved one what’s already working in your relationship and share that with each other! Remember… the key is regular, loving contact with your partner. A loving relationship will help keep you positive for all the other areas of your life, including business
