Today, it is very common to hear people say that you only live once or as to how it is abbreviated with style “YOLO”. Many times, we use this as an excuse to do as we please and get away with it. As a matter of fact, the term is not untrue, life is short, but does that mean it omits us from the consequences.
When we apply this motto to our life we should also realize that we are all just passengers in the vessel called life, which means that we have limited time to make a difference and to plant a seed that will spread its roots to many. I am not saying do not enjoy life but revaluate your decisions, measure your actions and consider the aftermath.
As a child I was always self-conscious of everything I would do when interacting with other people, trying to not hurt people’s feelings. However, many times I would feel take for granted since people would take advantage of my kindness. I tried so many times changing myself.
Changing me! I mimicked how others were to try to fit in. Truth is I felt different- an outcast. Little did I know different was good, was better. I was unique and that made me special. Years later, I started realizing that I had a small circle filled with amazing people that loved me and cared for me, but most importantly I started understanding God’s love for me, for loving me no matter my imperfections and plainness. Yet, I took too long over evaluating myself that I missed out so much on me, so much on my surroundings, so much on the things that matter.
Many people say that your high school years are the best; personally, my college years were the golden days. I had my same friends from high school, plus a new amazing friend. We did everything together, from school work to hangouts. Our grades were over the top, and classes were far from dull and boring. During my last term in sixth form, I was on a low and one night as sad as I was I tried to smile. At the end of the night, as we were getting ready to head home my friends were joking around, and as I tried to keep my cool, I spiraled and said things that I did not mean. As much as people may say you only live once, we must always think twice before we act.
We stopped talking for some months, and then one day during summer I went to apologize to them. Thankfully, they were very forgiving, but the truth is that things did not turn out to be the same. They did welcome me back with their arms wide open, but I felt so terrible. I had realized I had missed out so much from them that I started feeling like a stranger next to them. I know they never thought of me otherwise, but that’s why we must always consider the aftermath. Some things will not go back to the way it once it was.
Life is beautiful and wonderful. Let’s make invest each decision, each thought, and each act on a life fulfilled of great choices and wisdom. The fact is no one is perfect, and that should not be a worry, but we can make life worth living in the mercy and glory of Christ because he has said it clearly in his book “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. (Galatian 6:7)” Let the Lord’s blessing pour over you abundantly.
Secrets to Life – About Seleni Perez
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1) is one of my favorite verse in the bible. On a walk down the beach, you can see how the footprints you leave behind can be washed out by the waves, wiping off all the progress you make, and when you try making a change the antics of the ocean take it up against you.
Throughout our lifetime we encounter ourselves in grave situations where we feel as if the world is falling apart, things don’t seem to get better and no one understands us. As a matter of fact, we all have a day of blue when things don’t seem to get anything better and nothing you do seems right. You’re not alone!
I grew up on the island of San Pedro six miles north. Not having neighbors or friends my age to play with for the most part of my childhood made me a very intrinsic person. Curious of life, with a strong desire to build my own path, and a wild imagination, I ventured in the world my hands created with pen on paper.
At the age of fifteen, I got an amazing opportunity in the field of broadcasting, which up to this day is a passion for me. People find it odd when they meet me in person for my very shy and introvert personality. I may find it hard to have a small talk, but I’m not short of words when my desires to express myself ponder in my mind as a form of art like morning bliss.
When I was in my senior year of high school, I was sure I wanted to get in the field of journalism or psychology, or maybe both. However, destiny had it different for me. I got my degrees in the business field. Though, this was not planned I managed to love every bit of the way, meeting amazing people along the way, which made me discover the beauty of diversity. I understood that not all of us had the same beliefs, thoughts or opinions; though there was something that would always transcend about each and every person – humanity.
Two years ago, I was blessed to be requested to partake as a leader at my church’s youth ministry where I have been an active as vice president. Around that same time, I began my career as a teacher at the San Pedro Adult School and later that year I also joined the San Pedro High School. To be frank, I had my doubt at the beginning, but I knew God had a purpose for this, and He sure did. Working with young people at my local church and at school has rekindled that my zeal for writing, in which has driven me to use my gift to help other people find the secrets to life using the bible. One thing I can ascertain is that I want to leave a print in everything I do to be a blessing in others lives the way I have been blessed by God.
