The Dangers in Pride

by Selenie Perez – Pride is a nasty feeling that consumes our time and consequently our life. It poisons our mind, while its feeds our ego; pushing everyone away, the ones who truly love and appreciate us, for who we are. We are left with a feeling so vile and selfish. It happens in all of us at some point, while for some it is just for short time; others carry it out for as long as it takes.

The power is in us to control it to overcome it; otherwise, it slowly weakens our body, mind and soul to the point where it becomes so natural to us. Then it clings in our personality, becoming a part of us. We need to let go of pride for us to set our entire self-free.

Forgiveness is key, and although it may sound cliché, we are the one at fault for imprisoning our thoughts with hate and arrogance. Relationships have gone down the drain because instead of trying to work things out, it becomes so monotonous, that only one person is trying to give in to make it all work. We become so self-absorbed and arrogant that we become blinded by our own selfishness. We keep seeing the flaws in everyone else; yet, not acknowledging our own fault. Then we feel so isolated not understanding why people are walking out of our lives so quickly.

Pride closes our mind to one thing only, which forbids us from happiness. We have all been hurt at some point, but the simple fact of allowing pride to take over and destroy us only inflicts self-destruction that can also destroy the ones we truly love and care about. Honestly, we must guard our well-being, not only for the peace of mind but for our own personal health. As farfetched as it may sound, the impression pride causes in your mind is reflected on your face.

Proverbs 16:18 – Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. Even the bible warns us about pride. How can we know if we are holding pride within us? At simple glance we might not realize it within us, but everyone else can see it. If we feel entitled to the world, and too focused on ourselves over any other thing, we may be suffering of a chronic pride disease. Remain humble and try to see the world in eyes of others, so that we can strip away from our own self destruction.
