Organized by the San Pedro Town Council Sports Committee, this academy is where dreams take shape and futures are molded.
This year’s attendance speaks volumes – 130 energetic participants, a significant jump from the 80 kids who embraced the academy last year. Boys and girls aged between 5 and 13 are the heartbeat of this thriving football community, gathering every Saturday at the Ambergris Stadium to hone their skills under the guidance of dedicated coaches. The goal? The much-anticipated “Mundialito” tournament, a spirited showdown signaling the culmination of the academy, scheduled to run all the way to the year’s end.
Football Academy Jersey Ceremony
The camaraderie kicks off not just with the sound of the referee’s whistle but with a special jersey ceremony that adds a touch of flair to the proceedings. The event serves as a warm welcome for all the kids, an orientation for their parents, and the grand unveiling of their complete uniform – a jersey, matching pants, and socks. A small registration fee paved the way for participation in the camp, and with the invaluable support of sponsorships, the vibrant jerseys became a reality for each enthusiastic participant.
As the program entered its second week, the air at the stadium was charged with enthusiasm, bliss, and the delightful sounds of giggles. The children’s eyes sparkled with excitement as they proudly donned their jerseys, a tangible representation of their commitment to the beautiful game.
Adaly Ayuso, the San Pedro Town Councilor in charge of sports and events, expressed her joy at the kickoff of the Football Academy. She highlighted the Council’s pride in fostering an array of sporting events throughout the year, ensuring that the island’s youth can actively participate. From soccer to basketball, volleyball to martial arts, softball to track and field, swimming to beach volleyball, and even a kids fishing tournament – the calendar is packed with opportunities for the youth to thrive.
