I was casually scrolling through TikTok the other day when I landed on a video by Dill Solo Travel, trying a Panty Ripper for the first time. You could tell right away, she was impressed. But what caught my attention wasn’t just her reaction… it was the statement she made. She called it the national drink of Belize.
And I paused.
Wait… is it though?
Now, I don’t think Belize has ever officially crowned a national cocktail, but if we’re being honest, there are definitely a couple strong contenders. And right at the top of that list, the famous Panty Ripper… and of course, the ever-reliable Belizean Rum Punch.
Let’s Talk About the Panty Ripper for a Second

If you’ve spent any time in San Pedro or Caye Caulker, you already know, this drink is everywhere. Beach bars, restaurants, backyard get-togethers, you name it. It’s simple, it’s refreshing, and it goes down way too easy. Made with coconut rum, pineapple juice, and a splash of grenadine, it’s basically sunshine in a glass.
And yes, people like to call it a “ladies drink,” but let’s not fool ourselves here… I’ve seen plenty of guys holding one with zero shame. Pineapple and coconut? That combo doesn’t discriminate. It’s just good.
Then there’s the Belizean Rum Punch.

Now this one… this one shows up to every party. Every beach day. Every event where somebody says, “Just mix up a batch.” It’s a little stronger, a little sweeter, and definitely more of a crowd-pleaser when you’re serving groups. White rum, coconut rum, pineapple, orange, lime, it’s a whole vibe. One cup turns into two, two turns into… well, you get the idea.
So now the question is…
If we had to choose, which one really represents Belize? Is it the Panty Ripper, the easygoing, beachside favorite that tourists fall in love with instantly? Or is it the Rum Punch, the life-of-the-party classic that’s been holding down Belizean gatherings for years? I’m honestly torn. The Panty Ripper feels like a vacation in a glass. The Rum Punch feels like home. Maybe the real answer is… we don’t need to choose.
Belize is both.
But I’ll tell you this, if you haven’t tried a Panty Ripper yet, Dill Solo Travel said it best… you’re missing out. oh pineapple juice they will never make me hate you #cocktailreview #tropical #backpacking #belize ♬ Three Little Birds – Bob Marley & The Wailers
