The Town of San Pedro woke up on Monday morning, February 22, to the sounds and sights of the popular morning show on Belize Channel 5 Television Station, Open Your Eyes. The venue was Central Park with the usual hosts of the show William Neal and Marleni Cuellar.

There was a lot of information, interviews and entertainment in the show which opened at 6:30a.m. featuring Angel Nuñez with a discussion on the settlement of the Mestizos on Ambergris Caye and its consequent development of fishing, education, and growth of the Island.

Besides the thousands viewing at home countrywide, the spectators at the park were delighted by San Pedro High School’s Band, “Rock in Peace”. Also in the entertainment section was the senior group of the San Pedro Dance Company. William and Marleni very skillfully toured around the island with focal and relevant information on the reef and conservation of the environment with Miguel Alamilla of Hol Chan and about the development of tourism with Catherine Paz, a member the Belize Tourism Industry Association.

The Open Your Eyes Team was very pleased in bringing forth Channel Five’s first featured documentary from Ambergris Caye and it was a breeze for William and Marleni to open their eyes to a beautiful sunrise on Ambergris Caye and helping the nation to “Open its Eyes” to relevant facts about San Pedro and Ambergris Caye.

The show which, opened footage with William and Marleni at the beach ended where most people who visit San Pedro end up- in the sea. Ambergris Today gives the team of Open Your Eyes to Channel 5 two thumbs up and an invitation for a few more in the series. (Visit http://edition.channel5belize.com/OYE/ for more Open Your Eyes)
