Lobster Galore!

It was no doubt that, just by looking at the large crowd that showed up at Saturday’s Block Party, Lobster Fest was a huge success. A very large gathering of locals and tourists flooded Central Park on Saturday, June 19, at the culmination of week-long Lobster Fest celebrations; a festival that has been deemed by Frommer’s Guide Books as one of the “300 Unmissable Events and Festivals Around the World”.

Food was the order of the night with the main dishes being exotic creations of our succulent spiny lobster. The long lines at the food booths were indication that people were HUNGRY; ready for their share of lobster and did not mind waiting in line a bit. Bragging rights for this year went to Mojito Bar & Grill as they won Best Lobster Dish with their Lobster Salad Tostada entry.

Weatherman Joey Stevens and Bob the Parrot of One Caribbean Weather/WSEE TV attended the event and was special invited guest judge for the cooking competition. Once again, participating chefs pulled out creative new dishes to entice the judges and their customers, which included the Waka Waka Lobster Tacos and Lobster Flan from Elvi’s Kitchen; Tequila Lobster Kebabs from Banana Beach Resort; Lobster Rangoon and Lobster Sushi from Fido’s/Nautica; Lobster Guacamole and Cassava Breaded Lobster from Hurricane Bar & Grill and the very unique Mango Lobster Colada from Blue Water Grill/Caliente/Red Ginger group of restaurants. Ambergris Today’s Editor Dorian Nuñez was among the panel of judges and had this to say, “Trust me, all the dishes were delicious and it was very hard to decide which was the best; the scoring was very close.”

Entertainment of the night was provided by the San Pedro Dance Company, fire dancer Lara Goldman and a super concert by Belizean entertainer Supa G who highlighted the evening’s event with his signature songs and Belizean melodies.

With the great publicity that San Pedro will receive from media coverage on WSEE/TV during the One Caribbean Weather with Joey Stevens and Bob the parrot in days to come, we are sure that San Pedro’s Lobster Festival will be huge next year with more visitors flocking to Ambergris Caye.

Thanks Joey for being such a trooper and attending all Lobster events and traversing the entire island to take film footage back home with you. He went lobster fishing at 5a.m. and scaled the Lamanai Mayan Ruins on an all day trip and still kept smiling all day long. One Caribbean Weather updates air daily on local channel 16 (CBS) at 4pm, 9pm and 10:30pm.
