Arts Open House for San Pedro Youths

Starting this weekend, San Pedro youth will have the opportunity to participate in a new arts program here on the island. Instead of hanging around with nothing to do on weekend afternoons, kids from 8 to 20 years of age will be able to pick from a list of fun subjects in the arts to try- free of charge! Parents and kids are invited to attend an Open House on Saturday, the 28th at 12:00 noon at the Medical University of the Americas. Classes and schedules will be described at this information session and enrollment will begin for classes starting February 4.

This ongoing weekend afternoon program is being organized through the San Pedro chapter of the Governor General’s Office’s Music and Arts in School Program, headed by His Excellency Sir Colville Young, Governor General of Belize and patron of the arts. Space for classes had been graciously donated by San Pedro High School, Medical University of the Americas, St. Peter’s and San Pedro Roman Catholic School. Over a dozen local artists have already volunteered to teach their skills in various types of dance, writing, music, drawing, painting, crafts, drama, and more. All artists are encouraged to attend this weekend’s Open House and consider adding their particular artistic skills to the list of course offerings.
