Prime Minister Dean Barrow and the new Mrs. Barrow, Kim Simplis got married on Saturday, February 7, at the Episcopal Church of St Paul the Apostle, in Savannah Georgia. About one hundred persons attended – most of them from Belize.
Activities were centered around the Marshall House – a hotel in downtown Savannah which dates back to the mid 19th century. The couple chose the wedding date of February 7 due to the fact that it marks the anniversary of Prime Minister Barrow’s and the United Democratic Party’s victory in the polls; the day he was elected Prime Minister.
Savannah was honored by their presence due to a couple of reasons. One being that Kim’s mom lives here and secondly due to the fact that others they know don’t. A beautiful, intimate wedding with dear friends and family was the goal.
The day started out with the couple, family and friends getting ready at the Marshall House in Savannah. Family and friends were then shuttled to the Episcopal Church of St Paul the Apostle, where the wedding was to be held and presided by Bishop Wright. Bishop Wright is the youngest Anglican Bishop to be appointed in Belize.
After a beautiful ceremony and Prime Minister Dean Barrow and First Lady Kim Barrow took their vows of love and devotion to one another, the party was led back to the Marshall house for drinks and the reception.
The best man was the Prime Minister’s brother Denys, and the Maid of Honor was Kim Barrow’s sister. Their daughter and her cousin were flower girls. Other Ministers and party officials in attendance were UDP Second Deputy Erwin Contreras, Heads of the regional caucuses. John Saldivar, Patrick Faber, and Eden Martinez and Works Minister Anthony Boots Martinez, considered the PM’s closest Cabinet ally. The party Chairman, Douglas Singh and Secretary General Phillipa Bailey were there as well. Taiwanese Ambassador Joseph Shih also attended.
