In order to assist in the education of youths in San Pedro and Caye Caulker, the Hol Chan Marine Reserve Board of Trustees has established a scholarship fund for high school students. This year three full scholarships were awarded. Recipients are Cristy Camilla Tzul and Fara Estephanie Maza of San Pedro High School and Osmin Arana who will be attending Ocean Academy in Caye Caulker.
The scholarship fund was developed from a request of the area representative Hon. Manuel Heredia and will be offered every year to three deserving students who meet all application requirements. Recipients are required to maintain good academic standings throughout the duration of their studies.
The Hol Chan Marine Reserve Board of Trustees Scholarship fund also offered a full scholarship for a Bachelors of Science degree on Natural Resource Management at the University of Belize. A total of thirteen applications were received and this week the selection process will be completed.
The scholarship program will be offered on an annual basis and any individual interested will be required to submit an application which will be reviewed by a selection committee.
