New Public Parking Rules for San Pedro

With a population of about 18,000 San Pedro is no longer the quaint fishing village it used to be. There are no more sandy streets to walk on. Instead we have cobbled stoned streets and a whole lot of vehicles. Traffic and public parking has become an eye sore for our Isla Bonita. There is much need for a public parking lot and other traffic regulations. The San Pedro Town Council and the Ambergris Caye Traffic Committee have just issued new rules and regulations for Public Parking for San Pedro and they are as follows:

Traffic Notice:
In keeping with the provisions of section 117 of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, and in keeping with the requirements of section 194 of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Regulations, the San Pedro Town Council herby publishes its intention to declare the following area exclusively as Public Parking and No Vending Area.

Public Parking:
*Public Parking shall be permitted all along Barrier Reef Drive from the boundary of Esmeralda Lane (Sun Breeze dead-end) to Milo’s dead-end, Parking be allowed only in the street side bearing the sidewalk.

*All along Angel Coral Street from the boundary of Caribeña Street to Buccaneer Street, Parking is allowed only on the street side bearing the sidewalk.

*All along Almond Street from the boundary of Tarpon Street to Black Coral Street, Parking is allowed only on the street side bearing the sidewalk.

*All along Seagrape Drive from the boundary of Blake Street to Victoria House’s southernmost boundary marker (end of cobblestone project), Parking is allowed only on the street side bearing the sidewalk.

*That Caribeña Street is a one way street, thus allowing traffic to flow from an easterly to westerly direction that is from Barrier Reef Drive into Pescador Drive.

*That Tarpon Street is a one way street, thus allowing traffic to flow from a westerly to easterly direction that is from the junction of Pescador Drive into Barrier Reef Drive.

In regards to the parking on Barrier Reef Drive from Esmeralda Lane to the Dead end at Milo’s (or entrance of the Phoenix Resort) the current rule of parking on the right hand side from the 1st – 15th of the month and parking on the left hand side from the 16th- end of month, is being disregarded and parking will only be allowed in the street side bearing the sidewalk.

The public is being given a grace period of a month as proper signs will also be placed on the streets. Traffic wardens will also have the task during this period to inform all motorists of these rules and regulations, so be sure to take these new rules and regulations into consideration to avoid and troubles with traffic wardens after the grace period.
