Lots of Rain in Forecast

Rain, Rain, Rain and more Rain. The forecast for this weekend in Belize – Guess? More Rain. As the weather system came to land, rain started to pour mainly on the northern part of the country. Here in San Pedro it started to rain roughly at about 9p.m. last night Thursday, October 13, 2011, and it hasn’t stopped since.

But the entire country is in for a wet weekend. A weather system practically sitting over Belize will produce rainfall over the country for the next three days at least. There is a threat of flooding and there is a slight increase in the possibility that the system can develop into a tropical system.

Residents of San Pedro woke up to a downpour which has cancelled classes at almost every school on the island. The cobblestone streets are fairing very well with all the water as the drains seem to be doing a good job up to now. What are flooded are streets and yards in most subdivisions around the island.

Nemo issued an advisory on Thursday, October 13 on a weather system that extends from southeastern  Mexico into the Northwestern Caribbean Sea. According to NEMO, the system is almost stationary and is producing a large but disorganized area of showers and thunderstorm activity.

According to the Belize National Meteorological Service the disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the northwestern Caribbean are associated with a broad area of low pressure. Some slow development of this system is possible as it drifts towards the northwest and this system has a low chance of 20% of becoming tropical cyclone during the next 48hrs.
